DiggEffect vs SlashDotted

Assuming you can’t get both simultaneously, although that would be an interesting test for any server, which one is easier to obtain for a small startup looking to get exposure? In a previous post I talked about some strategies to get to the front page of Digg.com, and in fact within a few days one of my posts made it to the front page.

I will start my search with our good friend, the wikipedia. That article led me to this great compilation of stories of those that have experienced the SlashDot.com Effect first hand. We know that with Digg.com, although ultimately the community decides in the end, there are key power users that can help you repeatedly get to the front page. But what about SlashDot.com? According to them, they have a mass moderation system.

If you are not in the loop with the key players at Digg.com you can try your luck with the techniques I found earlier. With SlashDot.com, here are three resources to get started:

One key element to look at is the market. What is the Digg.com culture about versus the SlashDot.org culture. I started out religiously reading SlashDot.com and I found that many of the readers seemed to be hackers (or maybe that is because of the nature of the articles I would read) where I find a more general population at Digg.com. For me, Digg.com is a blast to use as a participant of the community. I have not been a major participant at SlashDot.com, so I will have to draw a comparison at another time.

Anyone have experience as a regular contributor at both sites? Share your story.
