Yes, I’m Still Using Vista :(

June 26, 2007 – 1:30 pm

I use my laptop quite often because of the need to travel fairly often. I have not made the switch to Ubuntu on my laptop because of one critical reason: My Internal Verizon Internet card! Since I spend allot of my time hacking ThemBid.com, I need to be connected wherever I go.

There is hope… I’ve been following the different forums that discuss the same problem I have and it looks like good progress is being made. I think in a few more weeks, I’ll do a dual boot and see what kind of success I will have. Of course, I’ll document the procedure and hopefully help some other lost soul upgrade their Dell Latititude D420…

Now, the reason I am disgruntled about having to stick with Vista is because it almost feels like upgrading to DSL from dial up (Ubuntu from Vista) and then having to go back to dial up. :(  Not good at all.  I forgot how fun developing on Ubuntu/Linux  really was. Every since I entered the business world, I just needed to get things working and fast. For me that meant using Windows. However, Ubuntu is now fulfilling that need. My issue now is the same as many others: driver support.

OK, back to downloading my Vista security update and wondering why my Explorer randomly crashes…

  2. Hello,

There is a page on the Ubuntu wiki listing the compatibility of laptops:
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam

I see there is already a page for:
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/DellLatitudeD400
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/DellLatitudeD410

    But not for your laptop
You can test all the functionality of your laptop and create the page:
    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam/DellLatitudeD420
