Why We Are We Denying VC Funding?

June 20, 2007 – 10:17 pm

It seems that these days there is much talk (there are many seminars about this topic locally) among start ups about receiving Venture Capital (VC). We (ThemBid.com) are fortunate to have obtained angel funding and been able to fend off the VC’s. Here are some of the reasons why we are denying VC funding:

  1. We stay hungry each day and night.
  2. We are forced to innovate with what we have.
  3. We want to keep as much equity as possible.
  4. We like to be in the drivers seat and make our decisions quickly based on customer feedback.
  5. Our team works very well together and we don’t wish to corrupt our flow.

This is how it worked out for Friendster… What is your experience?

  2. Hi
I operate a SEO practise in Moncton New Brunswick Canada and LocalintheKnow is my local media lab offering services to local merchants. Primarily a method for them to have SEO services on subscription according to their size.

My SEO clients are mostly publishers outside of New Brunswick. I have a dominent regional print publisher in Northern Ontario ( Sudbury ) in your site map and another in Nova Scotia.

We want to colloborate or white label or share in some way so that we can use the exchange to drive traffic in the area and link to our directories. We can work out a revenue share, we can pay a license fee, we can add content and traffic until you get on your feet; we are open to anything.

I am in Toronto this week working with my other clients ITWorld Canada and pcworld.ca ; so I am not just another pretty face. I read your comments on Venture Capital and admire your spirit, spunk and vision.

We do not want to swamp you, but we all have penetration in our marketplace and would like to work with you. Our material could be submitted and tagged as coming from our URLs and you could link to us as strategic partners.

The concept and execution are great. However it is going to take critical mass to get it off the ground. As an old and former community publisher who had to build classifieds from the ground up by typing in my competitors classifieds for free to get mine off the ground, I know some things.

I am on Skype at davidjonahmble and travelling in Toronto tomorrow. I am presenting in Sudbury by this Thursday my business model for online nad offline publishers and I would like to include you in it. If you provide me a landline and a time you are available I will call you.

Send me a Skype contact request and I will respond. My email is jonah2009@rogers.com - this is the first thing I have seen of genius and practicallity in the Web 2.0 field and commend your work.

We want to work with you without swamping you or interfering in your direction.

    David
