Quick Portable Meals for Programmers - 5 Resources

June 20, 2007 – 12:02 am

I love programming. Because of that, I often find myself in the zone where I don’t even want to leave from the computer to eat. Power Bars are only so good after eating over 100 of them…. So I put together this list of easy to make and portable snacks to make sure that you maintain the proper nourishment to stay in the zone.

  1. Epicurious.com - Fast dinner recipes.
  2. WHfoods.org - Healthy quick recipes.
  3. Snacksby.com - Enter your ingredients and this service finds a recipe for you.
  4. FoodieView.com - Enter your ingredients and this service finds a recipe for you.
  5. FoodNetwork.com - Quick and easy recipes.

Or you can always go to Dell Taco…

  2. Instead of just quick, how about efficient. That is instead of dealing with opening up the kitchen everytime you want to eat, make a big pot of beans. You can mix a variety of beans with spices, veggies, meats etc in a big pot and let it cook for a few hours while relaxing at home. Cool the big pot in cold water and place in fridge for storage (will keep for about a week) You then have 10+ superfast (nuke in a minute or two), super healthy (depending on veggies, meat whatever), portable meal (top with cheese before you leave for extra flavor).
The added benefit is that your stanky reeking cube will curtail all but the most important interruptions by your coworkers (your boss may even decide to bother someone else about TPS reports). If you share an office, you may also find that your coworker is out on errands more often!
Big pots of mac and cheese are a great side as well.
Ever wonder why beans and mac and cheese are so popular in the south!!? Folks dont want to cook during the hot day! They’ll cook at night when its cool, dumping a bunch of good food into a big pot and letting it cook for hours while they enjoy the evening elsewhere!
