A Guide to Drive Traffic to Your Website for Free
June 15, 2007 – 5:22 pmOne of the most frequently asked questions I get after building a website for a client is “How do I get people to come to my site?”. The next thing they usually say is “I have no budget”. So this simple guide is for those people who have a website and they want to drive traffic to it but have no budget.
- Test
- Make sure you know how to use your hosting providers tools to check your traffic logs.
- Take note of your current status and compare the difference in two weeks after using these suggestions.
- Install Google Analytics and use Google Webmaster.
- Review these logs daily to see what is working and what is not and adjust accordingly.
- Create a blog
- You can start with blogger.com and wordpress.com, both offer free hosting.
- Make sure you have links to your site on the blog.
- Blog at least four times a day
- Write about topics you know well and that contribute to others who do not know your topic well.
- Provide how to guides.
- Share your experiences.
- Create a list of resources along with your own review.
- Submit your blog to popular social networks. Here are a few that I have found to bring significant traffic:
- digg.com
- reddit.com
- stumbleupon.com
- del.icio.us
- Search for others that are relevant to your business and keep a list, then submit to each one each time you make a blog post.
- Get your blog listed in aggregators. Here are a few:
- Establish an account at Linkedin.com and invite your business associates.
- Here are some good tips to get started.
- Participate in forums where your market may be.
- Bure to put your website in your signature.
- Seek out other blogs that are relevant to you and post in the comments
- Take advantage of free advertising.
- Check out the SEO mind map.
