Using Reverse Auction Sites to Profit

When you conduct a "reverse auction", you are asking sellers to compete to obtain business. For example, say that you would like to buy an iTouch; people who have an iTouch would make an offer, versus the alternative, where you would go to a traditional auction service to look for the item directly.

Does Bidding Hurt Competition?

Several business owners have told me that they refuse to bid on services because they do not want to compete against "bottom feeders". That is, those businesses that will make the lowest bid, no matter what. Recently, I requested a logo to be vectorized at ThemBid.com and I received 17 bids, ranging from $3 to $80. What Would You Be Willing to Outsource Locally?

After reading the 4-hour Workweek, I became even more interested in delegating tasks that are outside of my core competencies. The idea of requesting services and local businesses bidding on those services is at the heart of ThemBid.com. Some personal research revealed that are some who are still leery about this type of local outsourcing. So I ask, what would you be willing to outsource locally and by what means? What will give you the required trust level to feel comfortable with posting a request online?

Managing Your CraigsList Posts

I have had great success using CraigsList to buy and sell both products and services, as well as find employees and odd jobs. One problem I have faced is organizing all of the responses. I would usually receive a whole bunch of e-mails that I would then have to sort out and put into an spreadsheet. Here is a method I recently used to solve that problem.

Contracting Gotchas
